Don't Look At Me That Way: Uisenma Borchu as the director, the star and the editor

Don’t Look At Me That Way is first film by Mongolia-born writer and director Uisenma Borchu, in which she also plays the lead role and even did the editing in collaboration with Christine Schorr.
It is a story of an odd love triangle, and the even odder behavior of its protagonist.
Don’t Look At Me That Way was awarded with the FIPRESCI Prize in Munich.
A very beautiful and attractive young woman, Hedi (played by Borchu) is the new neighbour of Iva (played by first-time-actress Catrina Stemmer), who is raising her five-year-old daughter, Sophia. Iva is struggling with being a single parent while trying to lead something of a semblance of a personal life, and Hedi seems to be a breath of fresh air, she lives semi-hedonist lifestyle.  The two begin a complex relationship that is further muddied when Iva’s father (played by German acting legend and former Werner Herzog regular Sepp Bierbichler) appears on the scene, as Hedi finds herself attracted to him. It seems that only one world exists for Hedi – her own.
Classic gender roles get a total makeover in this debut which is also mix of cultures, and thus a rich and different aroma of filmmaking. It contain nudity and sex scenes which reflects the free-spirited but selfish Hedi who wants to own anything and everybody, but on the other hand breaks almost all of society’s taboos.

As  this is an art film, handheld camera, natural settings and lighting, lots of close-ups, and a minimalism to focus on the characters made primarily for esthetic reasons rather than commercial profit, and  it would be interesting for festivals, but probably will struggle with distribution. The film has the look and feel of an inspirational indie project (a low budget one – 25,000 Euro).
